Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting goods safely and efficiently while maintaining the truck in good working condition. Duties include:
- Operating and driving straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.
- Loading and unloading cargo as required.
- Planning and adjusting routes according to traffic, weather and changing road conditions.
- Using GPS equipment, computers and other navigation tools to select efficient routes and reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
- Inspecting tires, lights, brakes, refrigeration equipment and other vehicle components.
- Performing pre-trip, en-route and post-trip inspections.
- Carrying out preventive maintenance and brake adjustments.
- Performing emergency roadside repairs when necessary.
- Communicating with central dispatch to receive and relay transportation information.
- Recording cargo details, hours of service, distances travelled and fuel consumption.
- Ensuring the vehicle and cargo remain safe throughout transportation.
- Following applicable road safety requirements and company procedures.
