Key Responsibilities

Your duties may include:

  • Operating and driving straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.
  • Driving lighter and special-purpose trucks when required.
  • Driving as part of a two-person team or convoy.
  • Loading and unloading goods safely.
  • Planning or adjusting routes according to changing road and transportation conditions.
  • Using GPS, computer equipment and other navigation devices to plan efficient routes.
  • Obtaining special permits and other documents required for international cargo transportation.
  • Transporting and handling dangerous goods in accordance with safety requirements.
  • Inspecting tires, lights, brakes, cold storage equipment and other vehicle systems.
  • Completing pre-trip, en-route and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Monitoring the overall condition and operation of the truck.
  • Receiving and relaying information to central dispatch.
  • Recording cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption.
  • Tarping cargo and ensuring that loads are properly secured.
  • Paying and receiving payments for goods when required.
  • Addressing customer complaints and concerns professionally.
  • Providing professional customer service.
  • Coaching colleagues on new methods or work techniques when required.
  • Arranging travel itineraries and reservations when necessary.
  • Following transportation, workplace and road safety procedures at all times.

Requirements

Candidates should have:

  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
  • Good English communication skills.
  • Previous truck-driving experience is not required, as training will be provided.
  • The ability to safely operate trucks and transport various types of cargo.
  • The ability to load, unload, tarp and securely handle goods.
  • Good knowledge of safe driving and cargo-handling practices.
  • The ability to use GPS and other navigation equipment.
  • The ability to complete driver logs, inspection reports and other transportation documentation accurately.
  • The ability to handle heavy loads and perform physically demanding duties.
